America as North. Notes of some translations published in Correo del Domingo

Abstract
All through the four years in which Correo del Domingo is published (1864-1868), the United States appears as an insistent imaginary stimulus to write about the Argentine nation. Especially in the case of two very young writers who made their first writing experiments in this weekly, Bartolomé Mitre y Vedia and Domingo Fidel Sarmiento, sons of President Bartolomé Mitre and Domingo Faustino Sarmiento, correspondingly. When the Paraguayan War broke out, Dominguito volunteered to fight in the Guardia Nacional, under the orders of Mitre (Sr.) as commander-in-chief of the Triple Alliance; at the same time, Bartolito served as secretary of the Argentine legation headed by Sarmiento in New York. Their North American experiences nourish the imagination about the Paraguayan War that is being held at that time. In this context, translation emerges as a possible form of authorship for young writers who start their path in literature, at the same time that they begin to gain a place in the public sphere.
